A class that is fun and informative...that may sound impossible, but at Agora, there is one class that rises above the rest! That class is Agora’s Honors Biology Class taught by Mrs. Heather Stiles. Her class is from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm. Her class is lots of fun, but you also get a lot out of her teaching. Don't just take it from me: I interviewed multiple students from her class, and the vote is unanimous! (As a fore note, all of the students who answered the questions are in 10th grade.)
The first question I asked them was, “What’s this class’s theme song, in your opinion?” Zaidah Abdul-Malik said that she thinks the theme song would be “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Another student, Sameerah Muhsin, responded that the song would be “We are the Champions” by Freddie Mercury. Cheyenne Zentichko added that it would be “I’m a Nut.” That one has many versions, and I can’t find who wrote the one version she gave me. The song Cheyenne is talking about is a kids’ song, and it really sums up our class. Anyway, if you can’t tell, this class is quite insane. You’ll see that throughout the other questions I’ve asked them!
The second question I asked them was, “What’s the best thing about this class?” “We’re crazy!” was the first response I received, and it was from Jessica Fischer. The next response I got was from Nechama Harkavy, who brought up that she likes when everybody tries to move things on the board. Usually there’s quite a fight for control of the words when the slides are open; we call it a “word fight.” Cheyenne Zentichko said that the best thing is “having crazy friends to feed off your craziness.” Class gets pretty wild sometimes. The fourth response I received was from Noah Kashella, who said that, “we have a lot of fun.” That is most definitely true.
The third question I asked my classmates was, “What’s one thing people should know about this class?” Nechama Harkavy stated, “We’re crazy, and awesome.” The next response was from Aine Boudreau, in saying, “We’re the only Honors Biology in Agora,” which was checked by Mrs. Stiles. I think it’s pretty cool that there’s only one Honors Biology class, and it’s the one we’re in. Cheyenne Zentichko said that, “You have to like science and you have to be partially crazy or it’s boring.” Noah Kashella followed up with, “It is really crazy, and it’s not a boring class.”
The fourth question I asked was, “What’s your favorite thing about the teacher?” Nechama Harkavy’s response was, “Mrs. Stiles helps when we have questions about things.” That’s true. Mrs. Stiles is always ready to help with anything we have questions about. Aine Boudreau said, “She's very friendly with us. We have all kinds of conversations before class.” We do, we really do. They can be as normal as, “How was your day?” or as crazy as, “Pink fluffy unicorns dancing on rainbows.” Jessica Fischer responded, “She loves us and she lets us be crazy, even during class.” Noah Kashella and Cheyenne Zentichko had similar answers. Cheyenne replied, “She’s fun, we can make her laugh, and she’s pretty laid back; although she does lay down the law when it’s needed.” Noah’s statement was, “She is funny and allows us to have fun during class.” There have been a few times that she closed chat so we could focus on the lesson, but even then sometimes she starts laughing at some random thing sent to her as an answer. Mrs. Stiles is an awesome teacher, and she’s a wonderful person to get to know.
The fifth and final question I asked my classmates was, “What’s the best thing about the class’s subject matter?” Nechama Harkavy and Jessica Fischer replied with the same answer, which was “Genetics.” Aine Boudreau added that she enjoyed, “Learning about how processes work at a cellular level, as well as genetics.” Cheyenne Zentichko liked learning “about nature and how things can affect it or how it’s built.” Noah Kashella said he liked “getting to experiment with a lot of different items.” While class does get strange and such, we also learned a lot, and impressed our teacher with how much we remembered throughout the year.
As you can see, this Honors Biology Class is pretty insane. It’s my favorite class of the day, and I’m sure it’s the highlight of other’s as well. To sum it all up, I have a quote from Cheyenne Zentichko, who commented, “This class is always best when you have friends in it.” I have to agree. When you have your friends in the class with you, it gets a whole lot more fun, and a whole lot more outrageous.
