Student Spotlight: Elise Stork

Article and Photography by Madeline Landis; Student Life

This spotlight is on a fellow club member and friend of mine, Elise Stork. Elise is very kind and sweet. She just recently won an award as Kindness Member of January in the RAKA Club. She is one of the many amazing people I know from Agora and I hope you get to know her too.

I hope you enjoy our interview!

Q: What do you like most about high school at Agora?

A: What I like most about high school at Agora is the freedom. With Agora you have a flexible schedule that allows you to do pretty much anything rather than being stuck in a school like you would be at a brick and mortar school. Being able to be in your pajamas 24/7 is another big plus!

Q: What is your favorite subject and why?

A: My favorite subject would have to be Early Childhood Education. The class is so much fun and I learned a lot so far! Since I want to take early childhood education classes in college this class gave me a general feel about what to expect to learn.

Q: Who is your favorite teacher this year?

A: My favorite teacher this year is Mrs.Lesczynski. She is a kind teacher who takes time for each and every one of her students. Mrs.L offers tons of help and is understanding to different situations that her students might be in.

Q: What advice would you give students to help them succeed?

A: The advice I would give to students is, don’t procrastinate and ask questions. It's easy to get behind in an online school setting because you don't have a teacher looking over your shoulder all the time but getting behind on your schoolwork is a slippery slope. Assignments are easy to just push off till the next day but you end up with a pile of them and then you get overwhelmed. It's best to just get your assignments over and done with, it's easier to do them when you have the information that you learned fresh in your brain anyways!  In order for you to succeed you need to ask questions! It may sound daunting but you will thank me later. There were times I wish I asked a question, I would have understood things a lot more. If you have a question I bet there is another student with the same one but their too afraid to ask, so ask away!

Q: What do you do outside of school?

A: After School I love to read, write, and draw. When I'm not in school or completing my schoolwork I'm usually reading. Books help me pass time and are a great way to go on an adventure anywhere in the world from the comfort of your home. I love to write, I actually have written a couple books but I am just tweaking them here and there to get ready to self-publish them. Writing is so freeing to me, it's something that if I get started writing it's hard for me to stop. The ideas are constantly flowing and I just have to write them down. I also love to draw in my free time. Drawing is very therapeutic to me, it allows me to put my ideas on paper.  Whenever I start drawing something I get so wrapped up in it and don't want to stop until every little detail is perfect!

Q: What career would you like to pursue after high school?

A: The career I would like to pursue after high school is Kindergarten Teaching. I always wanted to do something that will impact people’s lives and with teaching kindergarten I could  help instill a love for learning at a young age which will set them off on the right path.
